I wanted to visit Kushimoto Town in Wakayama Prefecture in Japan.
I visited the site of the Ertugrul shipwreck, which was the biggest reason why Turkey became pro-Japan as a place of friendship between Japan and Turkey.
I have met many Turkish people in the world and many Turkish people told me that Japanese helped the Turkish in this Ertugrul disaster.
On the night of September 16 in 1890 , the Ottoman warship “Ertugrul” was wrecked near Kashinozaki in Kushimoto Town and more than 500 people died.
In June 1890, the Ottoman delegation presented the imperial letter from Abdülhamit II to Japanese Emperor Meiji.
Then, in September, on the way back to Turkey from Yokohama Port in Japan
They encountered a typhoon in Wakayama Prefecture and collided with a reef and ran aground.
A phreatic explosion sank the ship and threw more than 600 people into the sea.
A small number of survivors(about 10 percent of the pople) climbed up the cliff from near the lighthouse to reach the lighthouse and report the accident to two lighthouse keepers.
After that,Officials, doctors who were living in the village, and villagers searched, treated, and provided food.
Of the 656 crew members, 587 are dead or missing. There were 69 survivors. Twenty days after the shipwreck, The imperial Japanese Navy ships delivered the survivors to Istanbul,the capital of the Ottoman Empire.
Local newspapers reported about the incident, resulting in favorable feelings for Japan. It has been conveyed in educational settings, and even today, many Turkish people are know this fact and sentiment toward Japan is very good.
Led to the rescue of Japanese people in Tehran by Turkish aircraft during the Iran-Iraq War in 1985.
The movie “Marine Disaster 1890” was produced in 2015.
Japan has provided funds and technology to countries around the world since the end of the war, and Turkey is also the same and many Turks know that there is Japan assistance in the Marmaray Project, and I feel that Turkish sentiment toward Japan is good.
When I visited here, there was a group of Turkish guests.
Many Turks come here from Turkey all the way.
I have visited Turkey once and I will never fail to visit there again and travel around Turkey.
